Overview of Technology
A novel technology consisting of a universal single-phase and three-phase DC/AC converter
Technology Overview
MSU researchers have created a novel converter topology and control system for application in three-phase and single-phase DG/EV- charger units. The proposed converter consists of six controllable power electronic switches, a DC capacitor, an output filter, and a high-performance multivariable control system. The proposed control system can completely eliminate the DC-bus voltage ripples and non-characteristic harmonics which are the subtle power quality challenges for the existing VSCs.
Benefits
- The proposed topology is advantageous as it works at a smaller DC capacitor which leads to:
- Longer lifetime and lower initial and operational/maintenance costs
- Provides excellent power quality and can be universally designed to operate for both single-phase and three-phase models.
Applications
The existing three-phase inverters may be upgraded readily to achieve the features of this invention. Then, their DC-bus element may simply be removed and replaced with a smaller, less expensive and more durable one.
