TECHNOLOGY LICENSING OFFICER, SOFTWARE/COMPUTING, Office of Strategic Alliances and Technology Transfer (OSATT)-Technology Licensing Office (TLO), to provide high quality licensing and outreach to industry and others interested in commercializing MIT technology. General responsibilities will include the evaluation and disposition of new invention disclosures by assessing their technical merits for patent protection and commercial potential; and the coordination of patent filings with outside counsel and internal groups and ensuring compliance with sponsor obligations, identification of potential licensees, marketing of inventions, negotiation of license and other agreements, management of an existing patent portfolio, and agreement administration. The role involves working very closely with other TLO staff, including supervising designated technology licensing associates or associate licensing officers. Will also develop and maintain productive relationships with faculty inventors, external law firms, corporate representatives, the Strategic Transactions Group, Industrial Liaison Program, General Counsel’s Office, and other partners in the MIT innovation ecosystem.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: a minimum of a B.S. in computer science or related engineering degree or degree in the physical sciences with industry-specific technical or business experience; seven years’ relevant experience; direct experience working at or with companies developing or selling software and computer processing systems in one of more of the following areas–AI/machine learning, communications, graphics/imaging/computer vision, and/or data processing/big data. PREFERRED: market knowledge in one of more of the following–healthcare, the environment, mobility, advanced communication (wireless), sensing, and/or additive manufacturing; and knowledge of software and platform licensing and direct experience with open source.
