Novel Rotary Blood Pump Capable of Physiologically Relevant Bidirectional Flow, Coupled with One-Way Filter Trap

Abstract

Over the same working speed range, this blood pump may offer physiologically equivalent antegrade or retrograde perfusion. The filter trap is used in conjunction with the device and only operates in one direction of flow. This blood pump has the ability to pump blood in one direction or the other. Furthermore, antegrade/retrograde perfusion systems have the capacity to push emboli out of certain tissue beds. A full-support blood pump may generate trans-pump pressure differences of 80 mm Hg under typical conditions, with volumetric flow rates of 4-6 L/min.
