Ferroptosis is a well-defined cell death mechanism distinct from other regulated cell death phenotypes such as apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy. This invention provides novel ferroptosis inducer compounds that represent a new class of highly specific chemotherapeutic agents.

ABOUT THE LEAD INVENTOR

Dr. Rachid Skouta’s research interests at the University of Massachusetts Amherst include designing and developing small molecule drugs with specific predicted properties via structure-activity-relationship (SAR) studies to target receptor, transporters and enzymes involved in neurodegenerative, cancer and infectious disease models.
