This technology is a method to generate higher-order transverse laser modes. This method uses a combination of optical and/or electrical pumps and a VECSEL chip (vertical external cavity surface emitting lasers).
There are broad range of applications for higher-order lasers. However, due to low output power and/or large device size the current technologies are not practical. This new method will create tunable high-quality output power while still maintaining flexibility. By focusing on resolving these two concerns, this technology will have significant impact on various applications.
- Atom and microparticle trapping
- Manipulation of biological cells
- Light-atom interactions
- Non-linear optics
