- Flexibility in programming to remove transgene slowly over time or rapidly with external stimulus
- Takes advantage of an organism’s natural genetic repair system
- Fully restores the genetic wild type with complete removal of the trangene
Abstract
This technology offers a method for creating biodegradable transgenic constructs that are pre-programmed to self-terminate or self-eliminate a transgene at a predetermined time or under a pre-determined set of conditions. This approach provides a critical tool in efforts such as genetic strategies to control vector-borne diseases or invasive or unwanted species.
